Whooping cough vaccination. Pregnant woman being vaccinated against whooping cough, or pertussis. The vaccine will protect the woman's baby against the disease until it has its first childhood immunisations at two months. Whooping cough is caused by the bacterium Bordetella pertussis and produces fits of coughing that end in loud inspiratory whoops. It is potentially fatal.
