Caption: Lycra advert. 1966 advertisement for a bra with straps and panels elasticated with lycra. This advert was produced by the US company DuPont. Founded in 1802, DuPont become one of the largest chemical companies in the world. It expanded into other areas, with an emphasis on materials science. In the 1950s, new materials developed by DuPont included the synthetic fibre lycra (spandex or elastane).
