Caption: CERN equipment and spare parts. Workshop area in the Antiproton Decelerator (AD) facility at CERN, the European particle physics laboratory. CERN straddles the Swiss-French border near Geneva. The antiprotons are produced by firing a beam of protons into a block of metal. The AD uses magnets and electric fields to slow the antiprotons down and channel them into experimental areas. Four experiments at CERN are studying antimatter: AEGIS, ALPHA, ASACUSA and ATRAP. Photographed in August 2012.
