Caption: Impression of the seal of William Smith Bishop of Lincoln.The Virgin crowned, seated in a canopied niche, with a long sceptre in the right hand, and supporting the Child in the other. The Child is crowned with a nimbus, his right hand lifted up in benediction, and in the other he holds a rose branch in flower, an allusion to the bishop's arms. At the sides, an archbishop with crozier, and St Hugh of Lincoln. Below, in a niche, the bishop, with pastoral staff, kneeling in prayer between two shields; on right, with two lions, and on left, three roses Originally published in England; 1496.
