Caption: Louis Stromeyer (1804 - 1876). 1880 engraving of the German surgeon and physician Georg Friedrich Louis Stromeyer. Stromeyer was a pioneer in orthopaedics and orthopaedic surgery. In 1831 he performed the first subcutaneous tenotomy (tendon surgery) of the Achilles tendon on a deformed foot. He introduced tenotomic surgery to England is remembered for the 'Stromeyer hook', a device used for zygomatic arch fractures.
