Caption: Brain haemorrhage. Coloured computed tomography (CT) scans of the brain of a 37 year old male patient who has had a massive cerebral haemorrhage (black). Bleeding (haemorrhage) in the brain occurs when a blood vessel, such as an artery, ruptures. It may be caused by a head injury, high blood pressure or vascular disease. The area of the brain supplied by the ruptured artery may die due to lack of oxygenated blood, leading to a stroke.
