Caption: Grauvogel-Gall fossil collection. French palaeontologist Lea Grauvogel-Stamm (born 1940) with plant, fish and scorpion fossils from the collection she maintains. She obtained her doctorate in 1978 from the University of Strasbourg. The fossils are found in clay and sandstone layers in quarries in the Vosges mountain range, France, deposited by ancient rivers. They date from 240 million years ago, during the Triassic. One of the world's largest private collections of fossils, the Grauvogel-Gall collection is named for the Grauvogels and palaeontologist Jean-Claude Gall. It includes fossils discovered by Grauvogel-Stamm's father Louis Grauvogel.
