Caption: Aftermath of super typhoon Haiyan. Crowds waiting at Tacloban airport trying to flee the island of Leyte. Much of the airport was destroyed by Haiyan on the 8th November, however by the 11th November it had reopened to some aircraft. Haiyan was the strongest tropical cyclone ever recorded to have made landfall, with sustained winds of more than 300 kilometres per hour at its peak. The island of Leyte, and in particular its capital Tacloban, bore the brunt of Haiyan's force. More than 6200 people were confirmed killed, with nearly 2000 missing. Photographed in Tacloban, Leyte, in the Philippines, in November 2013.
