Caption: Graphene lattice, scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) image. This three-dimensional representation shows an atomic-level resolution of epitaxial graphene in a dielectric liquid. This is graphene-SiC, with the liquid medium being silicone oil. Each hexagonal individual graphene unit cell has a separation of 1.4 angstroms between each carbon atom. This image was recorded at room-temperature using standard platinum-iridium STM tips. Image published in 2013.
