Caption: Amoxicillin crystals. Polarized light micrograph of acicular crystals of the broad spectrum antibiotic amoxicillin. Amoxicillin acts by inhibiting the cross-linkage of peptidoglycan polymer chains during bacterial cell wall synthesis. It is used to treat a wide range of infections including those of the ears, nose and throat, genitourinary tract and skin. Magnification: x54 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
