Caption: Moscow, USSR. Hexagon satellite mapping camera image of Moscow, the capital city of the USSR. Hexagon was a series of US photoreconnaissance satellites launched between 1971 and 1986 that collected intelligence on the USSR and their allies. Mapping cameras were carried on those launched from 1973 onwards. Capsules containing film were ejected from the satellite and sent back to earth for collection. Image obtained on the 6th April 1979.
