Caption: Comet, globular cluster and dwarf galaxy. At left is Comet Lemmon (C/2012 F6). At centre is the globular cluster 47 Tucanae. At right is the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC). Comet Lemmon, an icy body from the outer solar system, was discovered in March 2012. Its tail formed as it boiled as it approached the Sun, making its closest approach on 24 March 2013. 47 Tucanae is 16,700 light years from Earth and 120 light years across. The SMC is one of two nearby dwarf galaxies visible from the southern hemisphere. It is 200,000 light years distant and 7000 light years across.
