It can be seen that an angle of 45 degrees, halfway between horizontal and vertical, produces the greatest distance. The greatest time of flight is obtained by launching the projectile vertically. Projectiles acted on by gravity follow a parabolic trajectory. In reality the effect of air resistance has to be taken into account, however.
