Caption: Mildred Dresselhaus (born 1930, nee Spiewak), US physicist. Dresselhaus was awarded the National Medal of Science in 1990 for her work on materials science. Her work in this area includes research on low-dimensional thermoelectrics, and fullerenes and carbon nanotubes. Her other awards include the Oersted Medal (2008), the ACS Award for Encouraging Women into Careers in the Chemical Sciences (2010), the Enrico Fermi Award (2012), and the Kavli Prize (2012). She married fellow physicist Gene Dresselhaus in 1958. Since 1967 she has worked at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Photograph from MIT.
