Caption: Mildred Dresselhaus (born 1930, nee Spiewak), US physicist. Dresselhaus was awarded the National Medal of Science in 1990 for work on low-dimensional thermoelectrics, fullerenes and carbon nanotubes. Her other awards include the Oersted Medal (2008), the ACS Award for Encouraging Women into Careers in the Chemical Sciences (2010), the Enrico Fermi Award (2012), and the Kavli Prize (2012). She married fellow physicist Gene Dresselhaus in 1958. From 1967 to her retirement, she worked at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Photographed on 10 September 2007, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA.
