Caption: John Cunningham Saunders (1773-1810), English surgeon and ophthalmologist. Saunders opened the world's first specialist eye hospital (now Moorfields Eye Hospital) in London, in 1805. He also did pioneering work on the use of surgery to treat cataracts.
