Caption: Nancy M. Dowdy (born 1938, nee O'Fallon), US nuclear physicist. Dowdy's early career was at Argonne National Laboratory. She entered politics in 1989, and was a member of the delegation for the 1991 START Treaty. From 1992, she was Special Representative for Arms Control and Disarmament Negotiations and Chief Science Advisor, US Arms Control and Disarmament Agency. She married fellow nuclear physicist Edward J. Dowdy and after her retirement in 1995 they operated a national security consulting service (Dowdy Associates).
