Caption: Jenny Bramley (1909-1997, nee Rosenthal), US physicist. Born in Moscow to Lithuanian parents, and studying in Berlin and Paris, she obtained her PhD in physics in 1929 from New York University at the age of 19. She was one of the first women to obtain a PhD in the USA, and went on to careers in scientific research, government, academia, and business, holding several laser-related patents. She married physicist Arthur Bramley in 1943. Elected an IEEE Fellow (1966), she received the WISE Lifetime Achievement Award (1985) from the InterAgency Committee on Women in Science and Engineering. Photographed in 1935, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA.
