Caption: Marcia Neugebauer (born 1932, nee MacDonald), US geophysicist. Neugebauer carried out pioneering research on the solar wind. She worked on space probe missions for NASA, such as Mariner 2, carrying out this work as a space scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. She rose to management positions, and received the NASA Distinguished Service Medal in 1997. She married US astronomer Gerald Neugebauer in 1956. She has served as President of the American Geophysical Union (1994-6) and in 1998 was awarded an honorary doctorate in physics. She was awarded the Arctowski Medal from the National Academy of Sciences in 2010.
