Caption: Helen Edwards (born 1936, nee Thom), US particle physicist. Edwards obtained her doctorate from Cornell University in 1966. She had married fellow physicist Donald A. Edwards in 1963 and both went on to work at Fermilab (Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory), Illinois, USA. Helen Edwards and her husband played a leading role in the design and construction of the Tevatron accelerator at Fermilab. She was awarded the Ernest Orlando Lawrence Award (1986), the National Medal of Technology (1989), and the Robert R. Wilson Prize (2003) from the American Physical Society. This photograph, from Fermilab, dates from 10 July 1986.
