This brain surgery was carried out with the Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion by Russian neurosurgeon Professor Andrei Golanov. This device is used as part of stereotactic radiosurgery, where radiation is focused on the brain to kill malignant brain tumours (cancers). Golanov is head of the Radiosurgery and Radiology Department at the Burdenko Neurosurgery Research Institute, Moscow, Russia, where this surgery was performed. Photographed in 2012.
