Caption: Porcelain crab (Neopetrolisthes maculata) amongst a fluorescing sea anemone. Fluorescence is a common trait for many reef organisms. Fluorescence occurs when blue or ultraviolet (UV) light excites electrons in fluorescent proteins. As the electrons return to their stable states they emit light at a different wavelength.
