Caption: Animation showing the harmonics of a wave. The first harmonic, or fundamental frequency, is the simplest wave pattern produced when a string vibrates. It consists of two nodes (orange dots), or points that appear to remain still, and an antinode, the point of maximum displacement (apes of peak or trough). Increasing the frequency of the vibration increases the number of nodes.
