Caption: Concentrating solar power plant, artwork. This technology uses an arrays of heliostats (mirrors with sun-tracking motion, lower left) to reflect sunlight and concentrate it onto a receiver at the top of a tower (lower centre). The concentrated solar energy is then used to produce electrical power by boiling water to produce steam, which is piped to a steam turbine electricity generator (lower right), and the electricity distributed through power cables (pylons, lower right). This power plant uses vats of molten salt (red and blue, lower centre) as its heat transfer fluid and energy storage medium, allowing generation to continue after the Sun (top left) has set.
