Caption: Colon poly. Light micrograph of a section through a villous adenomatous polyp of colon (large intestine). Polyps are abnormal growths of tissue projecting from a mucous membrane. They arise from glandular epithelial tissue. Villous adenomatous polyps are, by definition, neoplastic. Although they start off benign (non-cancerous), as they grow they almost always become malignant (cancerous) and so such polyps are always surgically removed. Magnification: x150 when printed at 10 centimetres wide. Human tissue.
