Caption: Petiver's insect collection. Specimens from the collection assembled by English botanist and entomologist James Petiver (1663-1718). The specimens date from the late 17th century. These ones are mostly swallowtail butterflies (genus Papilio). The collection is unique in that the specimens are mounted and preserved between sheets of the mineral mica. It is part of the collections held at the Natural History Museum, London, UK.
