Caption: Wold Cottage meteorite, artwork. This stony meteorite was found at Wold Cottage, Scarborough, UK. Its fall was observed on 13 December 1795. The meteorite, later classified as an L6 chondrite, weighed 25 kilograms (56 pounds). The dimensions given here at bottom are: height of 30 inches (76 centimetres), breadth of 28 inches (71 centimetres). It was acquired by the British Museum in 1835. This watercolour, by Hariet Topham, dates from 1797 and is part of the Sowerby Collection, the Natural History Museum, London, UK.
