Caption: Antique silver plated catheter dating from around 1890, England. The catheter would be inserted through the urethra and was used to drain the bladder via the urinary tract. Primitive catheters were known to have been used as early as 3000 BC. This device could relieve urinary retention caused by conditions such as kidney stones.
