Caption: Livedo reticularis. The mottled discolouration of a patient's leg in the condition of livedo reticularis. There is an irregular, mesh pattern of blue on the skin. It is due, in this case, to Cushing's syndrome, resulting from excess cortico- steroid hormones in the body. Livedo reticularis is caused by local congestion of the blood circulation and enlargement of the blood vessels beneath the skin. It is aggravated by exposure to cold.
