Caption: Malignant melanoma. Light micrograph of a section through a malignant (cancerous) melanoma of the nasal cavity. This cancer arises from the skin's melanocytes, the cells that produce the pigment (melanin) that give skin its colour. Malignant melanomas of the sinuses are rare. It is an aggressive cancer that often spreads (metastasises) to other tissues and the prognosis is poor. Magnification: x250 when printed at 10 centimetres wide. Human tissue.
