Caption: Ovarian fibrosarcoma. Light micrograph of a section through a fibrosarcoma in an ovary. This is a malignant (cancerous) tumour of connective tissue. A fibrosarcoma may arise from a benign fibroma, or be malignant from the start. It causes localised swelling and can quickly metastasize (spread) to other parts of the body via the blood. Treatment is with surgical removal, often combined with radiation therapy and chemotherapy. Primary ovarian fibrosarcomas are very rare, with poor suvival rates. Magnification: x60 when printed at 10 centimetres wide. Human tissue.
