Caption: Akinfiy Nikitich Demidov (1678-1745), Russian industrialist, mining and steel entrepreneur. Demidov was the son of the founder of the Demidov industrial empire. He increased the family fortune, setting up steel foundries, munitions factories, and iron and copper mines in the Urals and Siberia. Made a nobleman, he became the richest man in Russia behind the Tsar himself. This 1833 artwork is held at the State Historical Museum, Moscow, Russia.
