Caption: Oxygen barotherapy. Nurse communicating with a patient inside an oxygen barotherapy treatment machine. This is also known as hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT). Hyperbaric chambers are capable of holding patients for long periods in a high-pressure environment. In hospitals they are used for recompression treatment of divers with decompression sickness, and also in hyperbaric therapy to treat conditions such as carbon monoxide poisoning and embolisms. With the use of 100 percent oxygen, it is also used during drug and alcohol detoxification. Photographed in 2009, in an alcohol and drug treatment centre in Grozny, Chechen Republic, Russia.
