Their culture existed from around the 7th century BC to around the 4th century AD. Griffins (hybrid lion-eagle creatures) featured on Scythian gold ornaments. They were said to inhabit the Scythian steppes and prey on livestock. This artefact measures 11 by 16 centimetres. Photographed in Russia.
