Caption: Tree burial platform. Coffin in a tree as part of funeral rites in the Siberian Arctic. This is a form of platform burial, where the dead body is left exposed to the elements. Sometimes, depending on the culture, the body is taken down after a year and the remains buried in the earth. This tree burial has been carried out by one of the ethnic groups living on Russia's Taymyr Peninsula in Russia's Krasnoyarsk region. Photographed in December 1969.
