Caption: Scabies. Light micrograph of a section through skin showing a scabies mite (Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis, pink, centre) in a burrow. This presence of this parasite triggers an allergic reaction that causes a rash and intense itching. Here, it has caused parakeratosis (brown), a thickening of the epidermis. Magnification: x250 when printed at 10 centimetres wide. Human tissue.
