Caption: Squamous hyperplasia. Light micrograph of a section through skin from the vulva showing squamous cell hyperplasia (proliferation). This thickening of the skin causes intense itching. There are numerous possible causes, including infection, contact dermatitis and psoriasis. Treatment is of the itching and underlying condition.
