Caption: Laurent Nottale (born 1952), French astrophysicist. Nottale is a CNRS research director and researcher at the Paris-Meudon observatory. He has worked on theories of scale relativity that attempt to unify quantum physics and Einstein's relativity. The key underlying mathematics relies on fractals. Nottale's works include 'Scale Relativity And Fractal Space-Time: A New Approach to Unifying Relativity and Quantum Mechanics' (2011) and 'Fractal Space-Time and Micro-physics' (1993). Photographed in 2011.
