Caption: Leukaemia phytochemicals research. Molecular biologists using fluorescence-activated cell sorting to analyse apoptosis (programmed cell death) in leukaemia cells after exposure to different antioxidant phytochemicals. Certain phytochemicals (chemicals found naturally in plants) can kill leukaemia cells. Leukaemia is a term covering a range of cancers of white blood cells. This research is being carried out by the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) of the US Department of Agriculture. Photographed at the Western Human Nutrition Research Center, Davis, California, USA.
