Caption: Switchgrass biofuel research. Molecular biologist loading vials containing hydrolyzed switchgrass cell wall samples for analyses of lignin content. Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum) has been studied extensively for its use as a biofuel crop. The analysis will be carried out by a combination of gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. The data will be used to identify switchgrass plants suited for improvement through breeding.
