Caption: Papillary renal cell carcinoma. Light micrograph of a section through a kidney of a patient with papillary renal cell carcinoma (PRCC). Renal cell carcinoma originates in the lining of the proximal convoluted tubule. PRCC form 10 per cent of renal cell carcinomas, the most common type of kidney cancer in adults, responsible for approximately 90-95% of cases. It is one of the deadliest of cancers affecting the genitourinary tract. In a very small number of cases, PRCC can be hereditary. Magnification: x150 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
