Caption: King penguin (Aptenodytes patagonicus), 18th-century artwork. This penguin is found on subantarctic islands and in the Southern Ocean. This watercolour, by British artist William Wade Ellis (1751-1785), is from a collection of sketches of mammals, birds and fish made on Captain James Cook's third voyage of exploration (1776-1780). The artwork is part of the collections held at the Natural History Museum, London, UK.
