Caption: Veterinarians operating on a morbidly obese pig (Sus sp.) using an endoscope (an optic fibre camera used for investigative surgery). They will implant electrodes and a pacemaker that will electrically stimulate the vagus nerve. The vagus nerve controls satiety, so stimulation of it will make the animal feel full. The work is part of a study on the effects of obesity in farm animals. Photographed at the INRA, France.
