Caption: Bright field light micrograph of golden-brown Synura uvella colonies and a Trichodina sp. ciliate protist (lower frame). Trichodina is a ciliate parasite that lives on the skin, gills and mucous membranes of many aquatic animals. Each cell of the Synura colonies has two flagella for locomotion. Magnification: x160 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
