Caption: Polarised light micrograph of a Polyphemus pediculus crustacean. This species feeds almost exclusively on smaller zooplankton, and is one of very few plankton predators that feeds visually. It is often seen in dense swarms along the the shores of lakes, moving out into the open water at night. Magnification: x160 when printed 10 centimetres tall.
