Caption: Yolk sac tumour, light micrograph of an affected testis. A testicular yolk sac tumour is the most common childhood testicular tumour (80%), with most cases occuring before the age of two years. Schiller-Duval bodies are a marker of the tumor and are present as a cluster of tumor cells surrounding blood vessels (purple/pink). Although highly malignant when treated promptly with surgery and chemotherapy, death from testicular yolk sac tumours is exceedingly rare. Magnification: x 150 when printed at 10 centimetres wide. Human tissue.
