Caption: Aurora Borealis, or the Northern Lights. The planets Venus and Jupiter can be seen over the mountains (bottom left). The lights of the aurora are the result of collisions between electrically charged particles from the Sun and gaseous particles in Earth's atmosphere. Different atmospheric gases give off different colours. For instance, the common yellow-green lights are caused by oxygen. Photographed in Lapland, Sweden.
