Caption: Starry night sky over the Grand Canyon, USA. Deneb, the brightest star in the Cygnus constellation, can be seen in the centre. Above Deneb is a pink-red nebula (a cloud of gas and dust) known as the North America nebula. Just above the horizon is another nebula, called IC 1318 or the Sadr region. The Grand Canyon was carved out by the Colorado river over millions of years, and reaches depths of up to 1.6 kilometres and widths of up to 29 kilometres. It is the largest canyon on Earth.
