Caption: Student studying at a desk. Artwork from 'Orbis Sensualium Pictus' by the Czech educator Johann Amos Comenius, first published in 1658 in Nuremberg. This was the first picture book made for children. It was translated into many languages and remained a popular textbook for over a century. This is from the second edition, published in 1659.
