Caption: Fractured arm and hand bones. Labelled artwork and corresponding X-ray of bone fractures and dislocations in a patient's right arm and hand. The fracture to the shaft of the radius combined with dislocation of the distal radioulnar joint (at the wrist) is known as a Galeazzi fracture. The distal (wrist) end of the ulna has also been dislocated. In the hand, the fractures are to the second and third metacarpal bones. Surgery will be needed to fix the radius bones in its correct alignment to allow it to heal. This is usually done by implanting metal plates fixed with screws.
